3. Describe Image

4. Re-tell Lecture

5. Answer Short Question

Scoring criteria for speaking section of the PTE
As already indicated on the PTE speaking section, the input given by the test subjects is being assessed based on three aspects: content, fluency and pronunciation. Each of the five tasks is scored using these criteria, but fluency carries more weight.
1. Content
The purpose of this criterion is to determine how relevant and complete your answer is. It aims to find out if you have followed the task directions accurately and have provided all the necessary information.
More often than not, doing right and thorough in answering overrides this factor.
2. Fluency
Fluency is the term used to describe the ease and level of flow of speech. It considers the capability of the individual to speak in a continuous manner without intervals, repetition, or even reticence.
Fluency is an essential parameter that tells how good one can speak in general. Indeed, a fluent response shows comfort and where able English skills – hence, the score depends on that. Pay attention that you need to keep the timing and eloquence of the speech at all times while speaking.
3. Pronunciation
Pronunciation assesses the extent to which sounds are produced accurately and appropriately. This includes the sound quality as much as its rhythm, stress, and pitch.
Clear and accurate pronunciation helps the listener to follow the speaker without straining. Good pronunciation skills are fundamental in ensuring messages are passed across effectively.
Fluency: It’s Not About Speed
One very important point to be noted is that the term fluency in speech does not mean how fast one can deliver ideas.
It rather refers to the ability to engage in a relatively steady rhythm that does not disrupt the flow of the speech.
In fact, attempting to speak too fast may exercise the speaker to commit errors whereas speaking too slow may break the continuity of one’s response. Settle on a moderate speed as though you were addressing an audience in a public lecture.
This way, you will be able to give healthy consistent and confident answers which will see you scoring quite high in the fluency section. You'll be glad to know that there’s no need to struggle to complete long answers on time—concentrate instead on speaking at an even tempo and looking calm.
