Hope this blog helps you with the IELTS preparation.

Are you planning on taking the dates for the test in near future? If yes, you are just in time at the right place. I would suggest you should focus on your understanding of the English language and furnish it to the desired level.

How to get started with IELTS:

I would recommend to take a practice test first without any preparation whatsoever, just go through the whole process so you get a clear understanding of what to expect. See how well or badly you do, that will allow you to get familiarized and plan on the basis of your own pace and understanding.

You might be good at the language, but IELTS is not really designed for you to show off all your English skills but rather how well can you follow instructions and present what the examiners are looking for. Look out on the standard websites and official band descriptors to know the requirements of the bands you want, get to understand how you need to answer the questions to achieve your ideal score.

Three tips that you must keep in mind

  • Understand the test format and rules
  • Practice sample questions
  • Feel relax on the day before your Exam
  • Let’s get into the dos and don’ts:

DOS:

 Listening

  • Watch English videos, movies and news to improve your listening skills watch as many videos as you can.

Reading

  • Read the paragraph headings properly.
  • For sentence completion questions do not exceed the word limit and ensure the answer fits the sentence grammatically.
  • Practice from the Cambridge books.

Writing

  • Write both tasks and get feedbacks from others, this will improve your writing skills.

Speaking

  • Practice with yourself facing the mirror.
  • Try speaking in English with your friends as much as possible.
  • Enhance your skills by developing pace and style individually.
  • Practice sample questions

DON’TS:

Listening

  • Don’t focus on every word but just the answers.
  • Don’t get confused if the same words are not used in the recording.
  • Don’t get stuck on one question.

Reading

  • Don’t spend too long on your first passage.
  • Don’t submit the answer sheet without checking the answers.

Writing

  • Don’t write the answers in points.
  • Don’t spend more time than allotted to the respective tasks.
  • Don’t forget to check the responses.

Speaking

  • Don’t use pre-rehearsed answers
  • Don’t repeat the question, answer directly.
  • Don’t panic if you haven’t experienced a particular situation, it won’t be fact-checked.

Thank you for reading patiently. IELTS is a different journey for everyone, so try to tailor what works for you and ace that test! I know you can do it. Break a leg!
