Criteria of IELTS Scoring System: Writing Task 2

According to the marking methodology, the band score for writing task two will be determined by four variables. Although there is a range of 0 to 9, most students earn a mark in the range of 6 to 9. It must satisfy the following requirements:

  • Task Achievement: It's an effective strategy to stick to your topic and begin the introduction with a brief summary of the discussion. Avoid using fewer words than the 250 words that are recommended. If the writing prompt does not ask you to express your views, then do not create an opinionated essay.
  • Cohesion and coherence: Coherence is the degree to which ideas are well-defined and easily expressed, while cohesion is the degree to which duplication or irrelevant content has been avoided. Don't use a single term too often. It is also required that you produce a minimum of four cohesive paragraphs.
  • Lexical Resource: Avoid using big, complex words and correctly spell terms according to the context in which they are to be used. Prioritizing the selection of simple words is important since basic lexis can occasionally be paired with complex syntax. You can therefore make it really engaging, but avoid using words that are too technical for the context.
  • Grammatical Accuracy and Range: When writing with proper punctuation, pay attention to how your sentences are put together and the tenses you use.

How to improve your grammar to have a higher IELTS writing band score

  • You can use online tools to check your work for grammar problems as you practice writing answers to the IELTS writing topics.
  • Determine your weak point and work through the topics there.
  • Practice answering error identification questions.

IELTS writing task 2 topics:

Nowadays the way many people interact with each other has changed because of technology. In what ways has technology affected types of relationships people make? Is this a positive or negative development?

This blog will address the structure of direct question essays as well as provide formatting guidelines for the responses. Direct question essays follow the following format:

  • Introduction: Rephrase the essay's theme in the opening paragraph.
  • Body 1: Respond to the topic's query. "In what ways has technology affected types of relationships people make?" is the first thing to think about in this situation. Give a pertinent example.
  • Body 2: Address any further queries or continue from the previous one. The second question in this case is, "Is this a positive or negative development?"
  • Body 3: You don't have to necessarily write this paragraph. If it makes sense to you, you can divide the preceding paragraphs into smaller, more manageable chunks using the third body paragraph.
  • Conclusion: Rephrase the question and pose it again in the conclusion.

Nowadays the way many people interact with each other has changed because of technology. In what ways has technology affected types of relationships people make? Is this a positive or negative development?

Band 6

Technology have transformed how a lot of individuals interacts with each other these days. This has more positives over the negatives as well.

To begin with, technology has made comunication faster and easier. This is an important aspect of making relationships more meaningful. For example, if a student studying abroad, he or she can still be in touch with their parents and even see them every day through video-calling. Any news that has to be given is instant and nobody has to wait for days for a letter to reach the recipient and this has made life easier and people are now more connected to one another and in addition, people also have the option to connect with strangers with similar interests, career passions, or hobbies on social media and make meaningful friendships that last for a lifetime.

This is preferably a positive development consider the masses. People feel more secure and stress-free owing to this. For example, in case of any advarse news, people are assured that they will get the news on time and thus, take appropriate action. Also, at the same time, this helps increase the sharing of good news, and thus, people stay connected and the depth of the relationships increases, and this has also helped in the growth of business and blurring the lines between borders, as companies can connect with global organizations without any hassle at any time.

Technology have altered the way that a lot of individuals comunicate with each other these days. It has definitely affected the way relationships are molded and for a vast majority, this is a positive aspect.

Clarification on the band:

  • The grammatical faults that fall under the Grammatical Range and Accuracy section of the evaluation.
  • The spelling mistakes that come under the Lexical Resources section of the evaluation.
  • We've marked a lengthy sentence that might be divided into several parts.

Band 7

There have been a change in the different aspects of social relations as affected by technology which we can introduced as more of a post-positively than post-negatively impact.

First, technology have immensely extended the speed and convinience of communication and thus the worth of relationships. For example, a university learner who are learning in another country can use video-calling to speak with the parents daily. An instantaneous means of communication makes it easier to avoids having to wait for a letter to arrive for a day or more as is the norm. Furthermore, social networks allow a person to get acquanted with like-minded strangers with similar interests, career choices, or hobbies, therefore create friendships that last a lifetime.

Despite this perception, this development is fairly beneficial to the masses. Improved communication technology reduces pressure and creates the need for belonging. For instance, when there is negative information, people get to acts quickly. Also, positive information is more effective when shared immediately and it help enhance interpersonal relationships. In addition, this has led to the growth of businesses and the eradication of geographical barrier whereby a company can comfortably and easily transact business with an organization in another country at any given time.

Altogether, it can be highlight that technology plays a vital role in changing social relations by providing more effective and pleasant means of communication. It has made interpersonal communication better, provided businesses with links and connections as well as made everyone have equal access to information. Thus, it can be conclude that the purpose and use of technology have been mainly beneficial for interactions and relationships for the majority of people.

Clarification on the band:

  • The grammatical faults that fall under the Grammatical Range and Accuracy section of the evaluation.
  • The spelling mistakes that come under the Lexical Resources section of the evaluation.

Band 9

There has been a complex alteration in the various aspects of social relations due to technological advancement resulting in more positive impact than negatives.

First of all, the usage of technology has tremendously augmented the speed and ease of interaction making the relations’ depth richer. For example, a university student, studying in another country, can utilize video-calling to maintain quotidian contact with his or her parents. Real-time messaging banishes the lengthy wait for the letter, which was taken as conventional before. Besides, one is able to interact with strangers with similar interests, jobs, or hobbies, hence fostering friendships that endure a lifetime.

This development is predominantly propitious for the people. Advanced communication technology reduces stress and creates a feeling of belongingness. For instance, the sectional publicity of negative information can be quickly followed by timely responses. And just as to promote the fast exchange of positive messages, cooperation is strengthened between people. In addition, this technological advancement has boosted business development and erased hegemonic constraints and restrictions that enable business organizations to freely and easily connect with global organizations at any time.

Therefore, one is able to deduce that relations in society have been significantly mediated by technology in the manner in which humans interact offering more effective and fulfilling ways. It has made interpersonal communication easier, created business relationships and opportunities, and given equal opportunity for information access. Hence, the major impact of technology is analyzing and interpreting common interaction and relationship profiles that can be deemed more beneficial and helpful for most people.

Clarification on the band:

  • There are no grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, or word repetition. The sentences are crisp and the vocabulary is of a high-level.
