To pass the IELTS Writing test, candidates need to finish two tasks: Task 1, which requires them to summarize or explain data from a graph, table, chart, or diagram, and Task 2, which requires them to write an essay in response to a question, argument, or point of view. Practice logically arranging your thoughts, utilizing a wide range of words, and displaying a variety of phrase structures if you want to score highly.

The second portion of the writing test, known as IELTS Writing Task 2, requires you to compose an essay in response to a point of view, argument, or problem. Your essay should be written in a formal tone, be at least 250 words long, and take no more than 40 minutes to finish.

The IELTS Writing Band score is based on the following criteria:

Task Achievement: This criterion evaluates your ability to formulate appropriate ideas, respond to the question, organize your thoughts systematically, and wrap up. To raise your task response score you should abide by the following points:

  • Develop amazing insights. Allow yourself to up with sentences expressing the topic in question.
  • Provide a precise response to the question and the questions posed.
  • Correctly conclude your essay by providing a summary of your main points and a concluding statement.
  • Make sure your explanations are clear and provide sufficient data and examples to back up your claims.

Coherence and Cohesion: The logical and seamless flow of ideas in your essay is referred to as coherence. In contrast, cohesion evaluates how well you employ pronouns, connectors, and transition words in your writing. To raise your score in this section, you should abide by the following points:

  • Logically divide your ideas into paragraphs.
  • Ensure that every paragraph concentrates on a single idea.
  • To effectively connect theories, use connecting phrases (e.g., firstly, in comparison, therefore, to summarize).

Lexical Resource: This assesses how well you know the vocabulary. To boost your score in this section, you should abide by the following points:

  • Make use of a diverse vocabulary, including unique words and expressions.
  • To prevent mistakes, pay attention to proper word construction and spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: This criterion will also assess your knowledge of and proficiency with various grammatical structures. To increase your score in this section, you should abide by the following points:

  • Use a variety of tenses and grammatical constructions to demonstrate your adaptability.
  • Use proper punctuation to improve readability.
  • Create sentences error-free.

How does your handwriting affect your IELTS writing score?

The handwriting of any candidate taking a pen and paper exam is also taken into consideration. Write in a way that the examiner can easily read and comprehend whether it is straight or cursive writing. As long as the handwriting is readable, any style is acceptable. Therefore, if you write in cursive, try to be cautious of how you write your words.

The following is a list of a few important handwriting do’s and don'ts for the writing module:

  • Do not scribble mistakes as this could be interpreted as an unclear term.
  • If you write in pen and make a mistake, just erase the mistake by drawing a straight line over the word and carry on writing. This will facilitate the examiner's understanding.
  • Try avoiding cursive writing since this writing style is sloppy and harder to read. You can leave this pattern and write normally to score well in the IELTS. Despite everything, you may take the computer-based exam which will enable you to print your content. Everyone benefits from the time savings (you will have 40 minutes to write) as it also assists you in concentrating on the writing portion of the IELTS.
  • As soon as you understand exactly what is expected of you, learn to create a flowchart or mental map.

Lastly, Practice:

Experts examine handwriting to determine a person's personality because it is believed that a person's handwriting reflects their character. To improve your handwriting on the IELTS test, you must practice every day. Set aside some time each day to practice writing some sample answers so that you can measure your time. You will be able to judge your writing within the word limit and the restricted time. Regular exercise will improve both your handwriting and your speed, so when things get tough, you'll be able to write precisely and effectively. Handwriting that is messy and unprofessional tends to give the examiner the idea that you are not serious about the test.

IELTS writing task 2 topics with answer:

Some people say History is one of most important school subjects other people think that, in today world, subject like science and technology are more important than History. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Before you start writing, thoroughly read the question to determine what kind of essay is needed.

In the IELTS writing task, you must select the category to which your subjects from IELTS writing issue 2 belong. To accomplish that, you must review the language in the instructions. Here, the directions are to "Give your own opinion" and "Discuss both these views." Thus, after comparing and contrasting these two points of view, it can be concluded that the essay belongs in the discussion essay category and is an opinion essay because the prompt "Give your own opinion" implies that you have to share your subjective thoughts about the topic. Therefore, the essay might be classified as a "Discussion and Opinion" based essay.

  • Introduction:  Rephrase the question in the introduction. Explain that you will talk about both arguments. Give your opinion since it has been asked.
  • Body Paragraph 1:Describe the argument you are discussing. Give instances to back up your claims.
  • Body Paragraph 2: Mention the other point of view. Give instances to back up your claim.
  • Conclusion: Restate the question in your own words and convey your thoughts.

Band 6

Some people argue whether subjects should be taught in schools in addition to others. While history is important to some, science and technology are important to others. I will further explain this in the paragraphs that follow.

Firstly, a nation's past has always played a major part in it. It tells people about past incidents, the struggle had by their forefathers, and the causes for which the warriors fought. Since fights for liberty played a vital part in the past, everyone should know historical events to value what they have now and pay tribute to those who kept their country safe. Hundreds of years-old scientific discoveries continue to be important in today's society since they represent foundation of current advancements. So, it is important for everyone, but especially for kids, to understand history.

And, topics like science and technology also have greater effect on human existence and have significantly altered it. They are also used in a variety of other everyday items, including inventions, computer gadgets, medications, and much more. For instance, thanks to technological advancements, people have created the internet, electricity, the wheel, and many more items that contributed to global progress and ease of living.

In conclusion, I believe both topics are important for school studies.

Highlights:

  • Unsuitable cohesive devices or connecting words that may have been utilized are indicated by bold highlights.
  • Italics with underlined highlights indicate improper word choice and construction and also repetition of words.
  • Words in italics indicate grammatical mistakes and missing articles.
  • Note that the essay does not contain 250 words, a proper introduction (I will give my opinion statement is missing), and a noteworthy conclusion. Also, only one generalized example is used which is not making much of an impact on the essay.

Band 7

Some argue that science and technology are more important than history in the modern world, while others maintain that history is a necessary subject. In my opinion, all of this course have value because, while science and technology move people closer to progress and creativity, history explains how the world became to be what it is now.

On the one hand, people think studying history can give students a deep understanding of both their own culture and the formation and development of a nation. Likewise, it is regarded as an excellent way for people to understand the significance of traditional customs as well as to save and transfer them to future generations. An important aspect of studying history can help students learn that problems can be solved through discussions rather than fighting a war. Thus, knowledge of history is essential and valuable.

But, many people believe that students must acquire knowledge in science areas due to the swift progress in technology and the continuous influence of science on society. Modern life depend heavily on science and technology in many areas, including healthcare, communication, and transportation. For students be ready for the workforce in the future, they must be have a thorough understanding of these disciplines.

In summary, there are exciting prospects for both areas in the future. I believe studying history will impart important lessons and might prevent mistakes from being made in the past while understanding science and technology will increase our chances of survival and success in the future.

Highlights:

  • Unsuitable cohesive devices or connecting words that may have been utilized are indicated by bold highlights.
  • Words in italics indicate improper word choice and construction and also repetition of words.
  • Italics with underlined highlights indicate grammatical mistakes and missing articles.
  • Note that the flow of this article is much better than the previous band and different choices of words have also been used. But examples are missing from the essay which might give you a low band score.

Band 9

Critics argue that science and technology should take priority over history in the educational curriculum, whereas many others view history as a crucial subject. Both of these subjects are invaluable since history illustrates how the world came to be how it is now. At the same time, science and technology bring people closer to progress and creative thinking.

Studying history is important because it teaches us vital lessons about humanity by allowing us to know the strengths and failures of past civilizations and provides a distinctive perspective on how humans interact. It fosters a sense of empathy and critical thinking in youngsters while researching past events, including wars and their outcomes. For instance, researching the beginnings and aftermath of World War II can shed light on contemporary approaches to international relations and conflict resolution. In addition, studying history helps students to think critically about numerous viewpoints which promotes a deeper understanding of intricate social dynamics and human behavior.

On the other hand, science and technology are radically reshaping both the present and the future of our very existence. Such fields constitute the cornerstone of innovation and are essential to both societal progress and economic expansion. Scientific progress is felt in fields such as health care, where new developments in medical technology have transformed treatments and extended life. In the current digital age, the significance of technology is further emphasized; familiarity with this area is not only advantageous but also necessary for navigating the modern labor market and social infrastructure. Technology's quick development—from Robotic intelligence to sustainable energy—underlines how important it is to address today's problems and lay the groundwork for the future to be environmentally friendly.

In a nutshell, technology and science serve as crucial for overcoming the challenges and requirements of the present and the future, while history provides invaluable glimpses into our ancestors. Therefore it is crucial to create a balance between various topics to ensure that students receive comprehensive schooling.

Highlights:

  • In terms of flow, fluency, grammar, extensive vocabulary, connecting words, and sentence structure, this article is well-written and structured.
  • The essay contains a well-structured introduction and conclusion with suitable examples which makes it compact.
