Eligibility Checklist for Duolingo English Test 2025

1. Age Limitation

The Duolingo English Test comes with a broad age limit. But still, parents should bear a few things age-wise:

• Minimum Age Limit: A prospective test-taker should be above 13 years to sign up for and give the Duolingo English Test.

• Consent: Any test-taker who is less than 18 years may be required to submit a consent form signed by his or her parents or guardians in line with the laws of the country of the test-taker.

2. Documents Required

In an effort to maintain the highest standards of testing practices and others, different forms of identity for verification purposes are required.

Here’s what you need to have:

• Valid Photo ID: You must present a valid photo identification document. Acceptable IDs include the following:

  • Passport
  • Government photo identification card
  • Driving license
  • A military identification card

• Note: The ID should be valid (not out of date) and must have your full name, current photo, and date of birth.

3. Scores and Interpretation

The objectives of the Duolingo English Test scores include providing you with an accurate as well as an overall assessment of your proficiency of the English language.

Here’s a breakdown of what you need to know about DET scores:

• Score Range: The DET scores are examined on the scale of 10 to 160 points, which increments by 5 points. In this regard, each subtest available on the examination will determine the overall score that one will attain.

• Subscores: In addition, the test has four subscores that help to understand a particular skill area in more detail:

  • Literacy: The skill of reading and writing
  • Comprehension: The skill of reading and listening
  • Production: The skill of writing and speaking
  • Conversation: The skill of listening and speaking.

Interpreting Scores:

• Scores range 120-160: This range indicates extremely proficient use of the English language that is capable of undertaking university studies or above.

• Scores range 90-115: This range indicates being relatively good in the use of English language to carry out ordinary tasks and basic academic needs.

• Scores range 60-85: This range indicates that a person has basic communicative skills which are evident at an intermediate level.

• Scores range 10-55: This range indicates that a candidate has low to mid-level skills which would be far from fully adequate in an academic or business environment without further development.

Looking at the aspect of subscores, the Individual Subscores assess certain components of language skills whereas the Integrated Subscores gives a better picture towards the actual language proficiency of an individual. Each Integrated Subscore is derived from the average of two Individual Subscores.

Conclusion:

In line with this, in order to prepare for the DET examination, it is very important to first state what is the designated score to aim for with respect to the university one wants to go to. This helps in guiding the study efforts thus helping in accomplishing the set targets.
