If your goal is to study abroad or be ready to work there, you will need to obtain an IELTS test certificate. The Reading test, Writing test, Speaking test, and Listening test sections of the IELTS exam are designed to assess your English proficiency and knowledge.

This blog will cover the IELTS speaking portion, a timed speaking exam designed to assess your language proficiency, critical thinking abilities, and ability to condense an answer. The IELTS speaking portion, also known as the Cue Cards segment, and the IELTS speaking part 2, commonly known as the follow-up questions component, make up this English-speaking test.

You will be asked to speak on an arbitrary topic chosen by the examiner in the first portion, and you will be asked follow-up questions about your response in the second. After being assigned a topic, you get one minute to prepare your response in the IELTS speaking topics section. You then have two minutes to talk on the assigned topic. In the second section of the speaking test, the examiner assesses your conversational abilities by asking follow-up questions based on your response.

Examining the IELTS exam sample questions, going over the IELTS speaking topics, correctly comprehending the IELTS speaking questions, and practising vocally responding to frequently requested IELTS speaking topics are all important parts of a good IELTS preparation. You can confidently and on the spot create your responses to the IELTS speaking topics if you prepare well and strategically. Thus, it is essential to look over the IELTS exam sample instances, review the IELTS speaking questions and answers, and take the IELTS practice test at least once a day.

You can use this blog as study material for the speaking portion of the IELTS practice test since it will help you understand how to strategically plan your responses to the IELTS speaking topics. Your personal life, your beliefs, current events, or any other seemingly random issue might be the subject of your IELTS speaking test monologue.

The only way to ensure that you are ready for every question that is thrown at you during your IELTS speaking test is to practice the common IELTS speaking questions and regularly attend the IELTS sample test. Let's have a look at the variations of answers on the topic “Describe a uniform you wear or you wore at school”

IELTS exam sample 1:

Describe a uniform you wear or you wore at school

To approach a topic like this, you need to bring your tactical experiences to the table. That way, your answer will be unique but relatable. Think about the uniforms you have worn in your past and try to bring some unique pointers to your response in the following sections :

  • What was the uniform for?
  • Describe the uniform
  • Your emotions attached to it
  • A worthy conclusion

Let us have a look at some model answers.

What was the uniform for?

In my, we had 3 sets of uniforms. 1 uniform for students till class 4, 1 uniform for students till class 10, and then another one for students till class 12. The uniform I wore till class 4 was my favorite one among them. It was a very sweet attire with a lot of memories attached to it from my childhood.

Describe the uniform :

The uniform was a red colored dress with a kangaroo pocket in the middle.  It had my school's logo embroidered on the left corner below the shoulders with small white stripes on the sleeves and over the middle pocket. The best part of the uniform was its long pocket which was extremely convenient to hold all the miscellaneous stuff a child might want to withhold.

Your emotions attached to it :

It was the very first uniform I wore since childhood hence it has a huge emotional significance in my life. I wore it from kindergarten up until class 4 and those were, without a doubt, the purest days of my childhood. I am so attached to the uniform that I still have it hanging in my wardrobe as memorabilia to the good old days. Not only was the dress very comfortable, but it was super convenient too. It was easy to wear, breezy enough for hot summer days in the playground and the color was red, which is my favorite color to date. The best part was its pocket, which was very suitable for holding all the random things I wanted to keep secure as a child.

A worthy conclusion

Even now, whenever I see a child wearing the uniform on the street, I sense a gush of emotions in my heart. A plethora of nostalgia from my childhood hits me and I am instantly taken back to those tiny classrooms on those small colorful chairs of the kindergartens. I spent one of the most enjoyable days of my school life in that uniform and I would preserve those memories for the rest of my life along with the attire.

IELTS exam sample 2:

Describe a uniform you wear or you wore at school

What was the uniform for?

My high school had a specific uniform that needed to be worn by all the students during the final exams. The uniform represented the dedication of the students towards their institute and signified uniformity in diversity.

Describe the uniform :

The uniform I am talking about is a powder blue formal shirt with the school logo on the left pocket over the chest coupled with a pair of dark blue formal pants. We also had a dark blue tie with the logo of our institute imprinted on it. Male and female students had the same uniform which signified the institute's modern outlook towards gender equality.

Your emotions attached to it :

I have worn the uniform during the most stressful days of my life and every time I look back at those days of struggle, I am filled with a lot of satisfaction. Those tedious days of exams were the most challenging but most fulfilling days of my school life. The set of clothes signifies my nervousness before every exam, the palpitating heart before getting the question paper, the struggle to complete the answers, and the sigh of relief after the exams were over. Every time I look at the uniform I am filled with a sense of fulfillment as the old days of final exams flash in front of my eyes and it gives me the energy to overcome hurdles.

A worthy conclusion

I feel very emotionally connected to this set of uniforms from my high school days as it had a lot of memories attached to it. Thus I would keep it close to my heart for a very long time and look at it now and then to bathe in the memories of my high school days.

IELTS test next step: Follow-up questions

The follow-up questions comprise this English-speaking test, which comes after the IELTS speaking topics and answers. The examiner will give you a few follow-up questions to assess your conversational skills based on your answers in the speaking subjects part. You should get ready for the IELTS speaking part 3 section, also known as the follow-up question segment. IELTS exam sample questions, IELTS speaking materials, and samples of IELTS speaking topics with answers should be routinely reviewed in order to comprehend the different probable speaking test questions and the follow-up questions of the IELTS exam.

Here are some of the follow-up questions on the IELTS speaking topics with answers.

IELTS speaking part 2 - Follow-up question

What do you think a uniform signifies?

Answer: According to me a uniform signifies uniformity. It signifies respect and adherence to the rules and regulations of a particular institute or organization. A uniform is meant to amalgamate the different strata of people working or studying at a particular organization. It often serves as an emotional connection for people since they revive memories of the past when the uniform was adorned.

Do you think a mandatory uniform is necessary?

Answer: I think uniforms bring people closer and erase distinctions between people of the same organization. Having said that, whether uniforms should be mandatory or not, depends on the organization we are concerned with. If we are speaking about a school uniform then I feel it is necessary since it brings a sense of law and order within the students which is an important value to be inherited by them. If we talk about uniforms of an organization, then I feel it might not be comfortable to wear the same outfit every day to work, hence there should be limitations to such restrictions.

Did you like wearing a uniform in school and college?

Answer: Yes. I absolutely loved wearing the uniform in my school and in college as well. That is probably because I like to have fewer choices when it comes to clothes. I don’t like getting overwhelmed by the choices of attire, thus it was extremely convenient for me to wear a single outfit to school and college without wasting time on deciding what to wear the next day. Also, I think uniforms are designed in a way to keep the students comfortable and all the uniforms I have worn over the years served me with a great deal of comfort and confidence. Thus I would never trade my uniforms with any other clothes.
