The answer shouldn't end randomly but with a proper conclusion. As part of your IELTS preparation, you must practice speaking on common IELTS speaking topics to help you understand the framework of each section of the exam, and most importantly within time. It takes hours of preparation on IELTS speaking questions and attempting the IELTS sample test to grasp the method to properly structure your response, emphasize fluidity, and clearly explain your views.

The next portion with follow-up questions is the third component of the IELTS speaking test. The purpose of this section is to evaluate your opinions and communication abilities. A series of follow-up questions centered around your IELTS speaking subject monologue will be posed to you. You should try to be as straightforward, efficient, and humorous as you can when answering these IELTS speaking test questions. This section of the test assesses your command of the language, and if your responses are sufficiently persuasive and intriguing, you will receive a high score.

Therefore, when you are preparing your speaking test responses, pay special attention to the IELTS speaking question samples. Also, ensure to brainstorm about the probable follow-up questions. IELTS exam sample Answer 1: Describe a place where you would like to go to relax

Introduction of the place:

One of my favorite places to visit to spend a relaxing time is Manali.  Mountains are anyway very close to my heart, especially Manali is a place that gives the most calm.

Whom do you want to go with to this place?

I have been to Manali thrice before. The first two times with my family and the last time, which was in February this year, with my friend. I enjoyed and had a relaxing holiday all three times and thus if I visit it in the near future, I will either take my friends or go with my family.

How do you like or want to spend your time here?

Whenever I am in Manali I love to walk by the bank of river Beas. There are numerous rocks on the banks and sometimes I sit on them and stare at the water flowing and crashing on the rocks. I also love photography, so it is an ideal place for me to capture the snow-clad mountains and a mountain stream in between the terrain. I also pay a visit to the Hadimba temple with my friends and family. The place is serene with cedar forest surrounding the region.

Why do you think the place is relaxing for you?

The air is fresh and whenever I am by the river Beas, I close my eyes and take in the soothing sound of the flowing stream. It is like music to my ears. The Hadimba temple on the other hand makes me relaxed spiritually. The vibe of the place is pure and fills my heart with joy and peace.

Conclusion

Manali is a place that is very special to me. No matter how stressed I am, this place will always bring tranquility and make me calm.

IELTS exam sample Answer 2: Describe a place where you would like to go to relax

Introduction of the place:

Rajasthan is a place where I can never get tired of visiting, and specifically, Jal Mahal in Jaipur is the place where I find the most calm.

Whom do you want to go with to this place?

Every time I visited Jal Mahal, I was with my family. All of my cousins make it a point to visit Jal Mahal at least once every day whenever we are in Jaipur. I remember as a kid when I visited there for the first time, I threw a huge fit and cried requesting my father to build a house there!

How do you like or want to spend your time here?

I sit by the lake whenever I visit Jal Mahal and usually hours pass by and I do not seem to mind. I go here in the afternoon and stay way past sunset time and return when it is absolutely dark. Also, I make it a point to go boating in the lake. There is an uncle who sells guava juice here, and whenever I am at Jal Mahal, I make sure to have the drink which makes my heart happy.

Why do you think the place is relaxing for you?

The vibe of the place is quiet and relaxing. I like to stare at the still lake water and the reflection of the Jal Mahal in the water. Also during the sunset, the place is an absolute beauty. It seems as though we are looking at a photograph in front of our eyes. During boating, I dip my hand in the lake water and never miss to get a scolding from my mother!

Conclusion

I am a sucker for beautiful sunsets and lakes, thus there is no other place as ideal as the Jal Mahal which makes me feel so relaxed.

IELTS test next step: Follow up questions

Based on the above 2 sample answers to the IELTS speaking question, let's now find out which are the most probable follow-up questions related to this topic "Describe a place where you would like to go to relax." Try to give your honest opinion and the answer will automatically stand out in front of the examiner during your speaking test.

IELTS speaking - Follow up questions

Follow-up question 1: What is one thing about a place that makes you feel relaxed?

Answer: Whenever I think about relaxing, I can only imagine a quiet place. So silence is my priority to spend a relaxing time. While I like the sound of nature, like the chirping of the birds, the sound of river water, or the sound of the waves crashing on a beach, noise from people and transportation is something that I try to avoid.

Follow-up question 2: Do you like to be alone in order to relax?

Answer: It is not necessary for me to stay alone in order to relax. I enjoy the company of my friends and family and it is also equally relaxing. After a long day at work, the company of the people whom I love makes me stress-free.

Follow-up question 3: Do you think social media and technology have made people disconnected from nature and it affects the way people like to relax?

Answer: Yes absolutely. We have forgotten to enjoy and seek calm from the little things in life. Be it watching a beautiful sunset or dipping our feet in the water of a pond. Especially for children, there is very little scope for them to go out in the field and play. Playing outside can be one of the most relaxing experiences and now, it is getting substituted with playing video games.

Follow-up question 4: How important is it for you to have a relaxing time?

Answer: It is not just important but a necessity for me to have a relaxing time. I feel that to be at our best level of productivity, we need to take time off, make ourselves relaxed and rejuvenated, and then resume our daily activities. In fact, every day, I ensure to keep an hour for myself when I do not work and only relax by watching a TV show, reading a book, going for a walk, or simply talking to my friends.
