IELTS speaking test sample answer 1: Describe a Crowded Place you have visited

Introduction:

One of the crowded places that I visited was the market at Sarojini Nagar in Delhi.

When and with whom did you go there:

I have visited there quite a few times. In fact, whenever I am in Delhi, I make it a point to visit Sarojini Nagar. The last time I went there was in January this year with my mother and aunt as our family had traveled to Delhi to attend a family function of a relative.

Describe the place:

The Sarojini Nagar Market is a world of its own. As we enter the lanes, we can only see heaps of clothes, jewelry, fashion, decor items, and much more hanging from numerous stalls. There are hawkers and vendors who are walking along the street for their sales and to bring in customers to the stalls. The first time I went there, I was shocked to see the crowd. All I could see were the heads of people walking in front of me. There are so many buyers and sellers that it literally looks like an ocean of people.

What were your feelings regarding the place:

With time, I don't get shocked anymore with the crowd. I remember the first time I went there was with my mother when I was around 5 or 6 years old. I was scared that I would get lost and held my mother's hand tightly. With time, I have grown to like the crowd. I feel good seeing different kinds of people, someone bargaining with the shopkeepers, some kid convincing their parents to get them their favorite pair of sneakers, or the hawkers screaming about the price of the products. It brings out a different vibe and gives the fulfillment of street shopping which sophisticated malls will not be able to provide.

Conclusion:

No matter how crowded the place is, I always find myself going back there.

IELTS speaking test sample answer 2: Describe a Crowded Place you have visited

Introduction:

Marine Drive in Mumbai is a beautiful place to visit but it is always crowded.

When and with whom did you go there:

I visited Mumbai twice, once solo and once with my group of friends, and both times, I had been to Marine Drive. The last time I went there was when I was alone in Mumbai a couple of months back.

Describe the place:

Marine Drive is the road just by the side of the Arabian Sea which forms the beautiful Queen's Necklace in the city of dreams. I love to sit by the rocks on the sitting platform and watch the sea waves crashing on the rocks and the sky meeting the horizon. The view is beautiful with a cool breeze and occasional splashing of the waves during high tide and that is the reason for the crowd in this place. There are hawkers selling Bournvita and tea. I remember when I had last visited the place, it was drizzling lightly, and even in the rain, there was a sea of people. I cannot deny the fact that the Arabian Sea looks amazing from Marine Drive especially when it rains.

What were your feelings regarding the place:

The place is lively to another level. There are groups of college kids playing guitar and jamming, office colleagues chilling at work, and elderly people playing cards. People dress up like Spiderman or Mickey Mouse and perform to entertain the people and there are kids running around. I feel that the calm of the sea is a direct contrast to the hustle of the crowd. I like to sit on the bench for hours till the late hours of the night and the place still stays crowded and completely safe.

Conclusion:

Even if the place is always crowded, Marine Drive is my favorite place to be, and gives my heart a sense of peace.

IELTS speaking - Follow up questions

Question 1: What is the one thing you dislike about crowded places?

Answer: The noise. I prefer a calm and quiet environment and more often than not, a lot of noise for a prolonged period of time causes me headaches and irritation. This is one thing that I dislike about crowded places and mostly avoid them. This is the reason I avoid going to concerts where there are jam-packed crowds and loud music blaring.

Question 2: Have you ever faced any challenges in any crowded place?

Answer: Yes. I had gone to a fair once with my father during Diwali and it was very crowded. I was about 10 years old, and in the crowd, somehow, I got lost. I remember getting extremely panicked and almost into tears when I spotted a policeman at the entrance of the fair. I went to him, narrated my scenario, and he made a mic announcement after which my father collected me from a pre-decided spot. Not only challenging, those 15-20 minutes were the scariest part of my life.

Question 3: When have you avoided going to a crowded place intentionally?

Answer: From March 2020 till about a year before, for almost 3 years, I avoided going to any crowded place. The reason was the Covid-19 pandemic. For the first couple of years, it was mandatory to have restrictions to control crowded places; however, I continued the same even after the restrictions were lessened. Often there used to be surges in the number of COVID cases across the country and I have my elderly grandparents at home, so I ensured to maintain a distance from crowded places to avoid infection and jeopardizing my own health along with the health of my family.
