Cue Card 2024: Sample 1

What is the competition:

I have been watching the cooking competition “MasterChef India” for the past few years and I would love to participate in the competition one day. “Masterchef India” is one of the most prestigious cooking competitions in India which has given birth to several Michelin chefs. With a jury of three accomplished chefs and several top-notch sponsors, this competition is capable of opening doors for its participants within the cooking realm. The competition is divided into small elimination tests on which every contestant needs to compete and show their prowess to ultimately reach the finale and achieve the “Masterchef Apron”.

Why do you want to compete in this competition:

My partnership with cooking started as a fluke while I was trying out some dishes for my parents’ anniversary a few years back. As I went on to prepare more dishes, my love for cooking grew deeper. At present, for me, cooking is not only preparing food for my loved ones, but it is a source of my artistic ideas. I don’t shy away from taking risks when it comes to culinary art and the compliments I receive after delivering a good dish serve as my daily dose of enthusiasm. Thus I want to push myself harder to take up a challenge and participate in the most prestigious culinary show in India.

What are your aspirations:

Competing in a show like that would be a dream come true. It would be a learning experience for me and a chance for me to understand the art of cooking a bit more passionately. To be judged by the top chefs of India would be a humbling experience for me. My ultimate goal would not be to win the competition, but to be able to compete in it at least once. I aspire to share my love for cooking with the people of India and Masterchef India would be the best platform for me to achieve that goal. At the end of each episode of the competition, the chef of the best dish is awarded with an appreciation badge and I aim to achieve that at least once in my life.

Conclusion :

With a dash of hard work and a pinch of luck, I am certain that I would be able to participate in the most esteemed cooking contest in India. I would devote my time and energy to achieve this goal of mine in the near future and make my family proud. I am eagerly waiting for that day when I get to prepare my food in front of the eminent judges and receive their honest feedback on my dish.

Cue Card 2024: Sample 2

What is the competition:

Every year my college hosts a lavish inter-college competition with numerous categories for contestants to compete in. There are competitions like singing, dancing, painting, photography and many more. There is one category of the competition in which I want to compete this year and that is the fashion designing competition. As the name suggests, it is a competition in the fashion genre, where contestants need to design new clothes that are trendy and appealing and have to conduct a fashion show on the day of the competition with their top 3 designs and the best design would win the competition.

Why do you want to compete in this competition:

Since my initial days of college, I have been fascinated by this competition. I have witnessed several of my seniors from different departments gather together and spend sleepless nights, just to create a piece of clothing that has the touch of their artistic flair. I learned knitting and weaving from my grandmother and ever since my childhood days, designing clothes and knitting have been a part of my destressing regime. Thus it would be a great opportunity for me to compete in a fashion competition and get judged for my creations.

What are your aspirations:

For the competition, I aim to create new trendy summer clothing from old worn-out clothes. I would urge my classmates to donate their old clothes and create a few fashion statements with them. My aim is not just to compete in this competition, but also to convey an important message. I want to show everyone that the reusability of clothes can be extremely beneficial and it is extremely important to preserve old clothes and create new ones from them. Another aim of mine is to create gender-neutral clothes in all sizes. Several clothes are created keeping specific figures or gender in mind. I want to break that norm and create clothes that look good in all sizes and genders.

Conclusion :

I am certainly participating in this year’s fashion design competition organized by my college. I am confident that my unique thinking and positive approach towards fashion would be well-received by the masses and I would finally get to showcase my designs to the people and help them.

IELTS speaking test - Follow-up question

Do you think competition is important?

Answer: In my opinion, competition is important for pursuing one’s goals since it gives you the push that is required to achieve them. But there should be a line between competition and war. Healthy competition improves an individual’s strengths and polishes their skills, but once this competition is taken in the wrong sense, people might end up getting hurt. There should never be any hard feelings involved against the people you are competing with. It should be taken sportingly and the individual who loses the competition should embrace the outcome warmly and admit defeat with grace.

What according to you is healthy and unhealthy competition?

Answer: According to me, healthy competition is when the participants compete with an open mind and push each other to achieve the ultimate winner’s badge. A healthy competition should uplift the capability of its participants and never hamper their mental peace. The moment emotions like fury, hatred, and anger get involved in the minds of the participants, the competition takes an ugly turn. An unhealthy competition results in the suffering of the participants, mentally and physically, because they push themselves beyond their limits. Thus, people should control their emotions while competing in any competition and have a positive outlook towards its outcome.

What attracts you to a competition?

Answer: For me, the ultimate goal of a competition should align with my ideologies, to be attracted by it. I prefer not to compete with everyone in everything just for the sake of it. I had understood long ago that an individual can't be the best at everything, hence I aim to enroll myself and invest my energy in those competitions that would help me to rectify my flaws and polish my skills.  I need to distinguish between achievement and adamance, which is why I prefer to enroll in competitions that are good for my personal and professional growth.
