Describe a public facility (for example a mueseum or library) that been renovated and improved recently :  IELTS exam Cue Card

The International English Language Testing System, commonly known as the IELTS exam, is one of the most sought-after English certification exams, recognized globally in prestigious universities and business organizations. The Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking tests are the four primary components of the IELTS test. The general introduction, the cue card segment, and the follow-up questions section comprise the three sections of the IELTS speaking test.

The speaking test is the toughest section of the IELTS exam according to general feedback from the students appearing for the IELTS test. The reason is that speaking on an unknown topic with just 1 minute to prepare and gather your thoughts is not an easy job. However, a methodical IELTS preparation and practicing answering IELTS speaking questions can help you beat your fear.

As you go through the IELTS sample test examples during your IELTS exam preparation, you will comprehend what works best for you and how you need to deal with the IELTS speaking topics. You have to schedule your responses to ensure that they don't go over two minutes when you rehearse the speech on the common IELTS speaking topics. Make sure you routinely take at least one IELTS practice test in a day. Jot down the errors you made on your IELTS exam sample test and strategize on how to fix them. Right from the time you practice answering the IELTS speaking questions, consider it to be the final IELTS exam and take each IELTS sample test seriously. Take your time to understand the question in order to avoid speaking in any wrong direction or out of topic.

Fluency, pronunciation, and English competence are a few of the most important factors taken into account when evaluating a candidate for the IELTS speaking test. As a result, pay close attention to the IELTS exam sample questions when you are preparing your speaking test responses. We have prepared some IELTS exam sample answers and follow-up questions with their responses on one of the IELTS speaking topics to assist you in understanding the format of the speaking questions.

You will have one minute to consider how you will respond to the speaking question on the IELTS exam. You may use this time to jot down important points that will aid in your response. During the IELTS test, you have a maximum of two minutes to speak about the topic. If you can give a sufficiently engaging and thought-provoking answer in this section of the IELTS exam that assesses your language proficiency, your score on the IELTS test will skyrocket.

IELTS sample test topic: Describe a public facility (for example a museum or library) that been renovated and improved recently

IELTS speaking questions sample 1 : Describe a public facility (for example a museum or library) that been renovated and improved recently

Introduction of the place:

We have a huge park just opposite our house which has a huge swimming pool. I was glad that the authorities decided to renovate it and make a world-class swimming pool, where National Competitions can also be held.

When was the renovation done?

The renovation started 2 years back. At that time, the area was closed and the swimming classes were stopped. No public or even members of the club were allowed to be inside the premises. It took almost 1 and a half years to complete the renovation and was re-opened for everyone around 6 months back.

Why did it need renovation?

The swimming pool was huge and the most significant challenge that everyone faced was that one large pool was divided into two sections of shallow and deep water. The children and new beginners were only allowed to swim in the shallow part whereas the deeper section was for the experienced and older swimmers. However, since there was no clear demarcation, there was a constant fear and need to guard the intersection of the two divisions. However, the authorities decided to build separate pools for children, adults, and the respective competitions so that safety could be maintained and it would also be easier to clean the pool. They also decided to renovate the changing rooms, shower rooms, and lockers to provide better facilities.

How did the renovation help?

In the last six months, I have noticed a huge change. I myself go for a swim every evening and I have noticed that everything can be managed in a better way now. There is no constant need for worry or chaos in parents to keep a check on their kids as they are safe in the shallow water. Most importantly, a state-level swimming competition was held here last month and I certainly think it was a moment of pride.

How did you feel about the renovation?

Before when I used to go for a swim, I had never taken my phone or wallet with me. Now, with the better locker facility, I carry that. It might sound trivial, however, for me this is a significant change and it made me feel a sense of safety. The water is regularly checked and cleaned now so the hygiene part of it has also been taken care of which is something I feel good about. Swimming is a leisure option for me, and anyone would want to be relaxed and safe without any worry during that time.

Conclusion:

Thus, this renovation according to me was a good move to make the swimming pool more accessible for everyone.

IELTS speaking questions sample 2 : Describe a public facility (for example a museum or library) that been renovated and improved recently

Introduction of the place:

There is a lawn tennis court near our house where I went to play with my father since my childhood and it was recently renovated.

When was the renovation done?

The renovation was done within a span of a year and it had started back in February 2023.

Why did it need renovation?

The primary problem the tennis court had was that it only had a clay court and no grass court. This didn't allow the children to learn the techniques of how to play in both types of court. My friends and I had raised this concern quite a number of times over the years, however until recently this was not taken seriously.

How did the renovation help?

The main difference in playing between clay court and grass court is the response time. Although playing the clay court requires more power, the ball bounces less in the grass court which makes the response time shorter. Before the renovation, when everyone played only in the clay court, almost all of us were used to a certain response time and never really cared or felt the need to reduce it. However, as the grass court also opened, while playing there, we felt the need to train harder to decrease our response time. Although it took us time to train ourselves all over again, it was all worth it because we could develop our skills and diversify our expertise.

How did you feel about the renovation?

The only word I uttered when I heard about the renovation was "finally." It was much needed and much-awaited and hence it made all the members really happy. My father and I had discussed taking membership from another club only to access both grass and clay court, however, it was not feasible as the club was in the other corner of the city. The decision to renovate was thus even better for both of us as it took away the stress of the dilemma of whether or not to travel across the city for our practice.

Conclusion:

Now whenever I enter the premises, I feel happy and satisfied knowing I have access to the best facility that I had always wanted. What can be better than this? So this was a very good decision in my opinion.

IELTS speaking test- Follow-up questions

Question 1: What are the benefits of this particular public facility?

Answer for IELTS speaking questions sample 1: Swimming is not only an extracurricular or a fitness activity but also a life skill that everyone should learn. Thus, a swimming pool in the locality definitely is important and should be properly maintained to ensure safety and hygiene.

Answer for IELTS speaking questions sample 2: A lawn tennis court or any sports facility for that matter is extremely important for children to have enthusiasm about sports. In our country, apart from football and cricket, none of the sports are given too much importance as a career option. If we have more places to train, we will definitely have more people enthusiastic about having access and choice to decide whether they would like to pursue it as a career or not.

Question 2: Do you think the renovation of public facilities is not done because people tend to not take care of it?

Answer: Yes. Lack of awareness from the public is one big reason. A lot of time we see facilities getting beautified and renovated and within months garbage is dropped there, people spit, or some random bills are posted on walls. These are just a few examples, but no matter how many times a place is renovated, it is not being taken care of by the people for whom it is built, and the authorities after a point stop making efforts for it.

Question 3: Do you think charging a fee to access a public facility is right?

Answer: It depends on the nature of the facility. If we are talking about a park or something similar, there is no requirement of fees and anybody can have free access there. However, for certain facilities, a service charge has to be borne. For example a library, a sports facility, or a gym. It also requires membership and thus, it is logical to charge a fee in such cases.
