Describe a natural place : IELTS Cue Card

The IELTS speaking test is one of the most critical parts of the IELTS exam which gauges the ability of a non-native English speaker to converse in the language fluently and effortlessly. Understanding the intricacies of the IELTS questions  and IELTS speaking topics is very important for a candidate to secure a good IELTS score and apply for their desired University or Company abroad.

The English communication skills of an individual is judged by an examiner during the IELTS speaking test which mainly consists of 3 sections. The first section of the IELTS speaking test is the general communication between the candidate and the examiner. In this section the examiner asks some generic questions to the candidate about their personal and professional interests. This section is like an ice-breaker part of this section of the IELTS test. It is good to practice a quick introduction of yourself in your IELTS preparation in order to answer these questions smoothly.

The second part of the IELTS speaking test is the Cue Card section. In this section, you will be handed a Cue Card with a topic written on it. You will be provided 1 minute to organize your thoughts and deliver a monologue on the topic which should not exceed 2 minutes. In case your answer to the IELTS speaking topics is too long, the examiner might stop you in between, which would give away a bad impression. Thus it is absolutely necessary for you to practice your monologues on the most commonly asked IELTS speaking questions during your IELTS exam preparation in order to earn a good IELTS score. Your IELTS learning and IELTS study should include IELTS speaking practice on all possible IELTS speaking topics in order to get comfortable with the format and structure of the exam.

The next part of the IELTS speaking test is the follow-up questions section. In this section the examiner engages in an in-depth discussion on the answer provided in the second part. Follow-up questions on the IELTS speaking topics is for the candidate to justify their answers, show their confidence and speak about their opinions. It is very important to understand the aim of each section to strategize about the type of approach needed for each section during your IELTS exam preparation. It is of utmost significance that you indulge in at least one IELTS sample test on a daily basis, to obtain a great IELTS score in your IELTS exam. Browsing through answers on IELTS sample questions on commonly asked IELTS speaking topics and thorough IELTS  speaking practice are also integral parts of your IELTS learning.

IELTS speaking questions part 1 : Describe a natural place

What is the place :

In my ansistorial village in Murshidabad, West Bengal, there is a pond, a deep one with a lot of fishes in it at the back of our house. I have been to our ansistorial  house once every year with my family since childhood, and ever since then, I have visited this pond every day during our stay there. I would like to talk about this place while we discuss the beauty and emotional significance of this natural place in my life.

When did you first visit :

I went to this pond for the first time with my grandfather on our first visit to this house during the rainy season. One afternoon, after lunch, he took me by the hand and asked me whether I wanted to see the dance of the fishes, to which my answer was an excited yes. We went to the pond, sat on the stairs by its side and watched fishes swimming around playfully, immersed in their own world. It had rained in the morning and the cool breeze with a sweet smell of moist soil encircled us and we sat there for hours watching those fishes.

Why is the place special?

I used to go to this pond every year without fail with my grandfather before he passed away seven years ago. We used to share small anecdotes about our day and stare at teh “dance of the fishes”. I have cherished this memory of my grandfather in my heart as it was a special ritual for us. The calmness of the water, the depth of the pond, the sudden ripples in the water caused by the fishes and the smell of the air somehow brought me closer to nature and my grandfather. Though I miss him a lot after his death, visiting the pond every once in a while reminds me of his presence and the beautiful memories we share.

Concluding Emotions :

The pond is a serene place to visit as it is very calm and quiet there, the fishes are always around to entertain you in their own ways plus it gives you the time to think and be closer to nature at the same time. Granted, I have an emotional connection with the place because of my grandfather, this pond has also given me the perfect amount of breather whenever I needed it. Hence it is one of the best natural places I have visited in my life.

IELTS speaking questions 2 : Describe a natural place

Where is it :

One of the most spectacular natural places I have visited in my life is the Borra cave in the Ananthagiri Hills of the Araku Valley of Andhra Pradesh. It is a huge cave in the heart of the valley and visitors are allowed to climb down the cave and go on an unforgettable journey of their lives.

Whom did you visit with?

I went to Andhra Pradesh on a vacation with my family and visited this cave on a day during our sightseeing.  I went inside the cave with my sister while my parents stayed back since we feared the journey would have been too exhausting for them.

Describe the place :

This cave is one of the biggest natural caves in India. There are stairs carved along the way of the cave for visitors to climb inside it with ease. As we go deeper into the cave, we witness the galaxy  of stalactites and stalagmites hanging around the walls of the cave. I had read about them in geography books hence was thrilled to witness them in real life.

Concluding thoughts :

I loved our visit to this cave and it was the highlight of our trip that year. To be able to witness such a natural beauty in its original form was mesmerizing and I would love to visit the place again and try to climb deeper.

IELTS test next step: Follow up questions

The follow-up questions are the next section of the IELTS speaking topics where  the examiner will assess your conversational skills by asking you a few follow-up questions based on your answers in the IELTS speaking subjects part. For the IELTS speaking follow-up questions section, you must frequently review the IELTS speaking questions to comprehend the variations of the frequently asked speaking questions and their follow-up questions.

IELTS speaking - Follow up question

How would you describe the meaning of the phrase “ closer to nature” ?

Answer : We have always referred to nature as our Mother, hence the phrase “closer to nature” would definitely mean “closer to our Mother” in my opinion. Just like a mother, nature embraces us and provides us with all our basic necessities to survive in this world and for that we should be utterly grateful. Hence when we visit some place where there is less habitation and more natural spectacles, we feel closer to Her. In such places, we ought to feel closer to nature as if we are communicating with one another. According to me, that is the true essence and emotion behind the phrase “closer to nature”.

Can you describe one of your daily encounters with nature?

Answer : Plants are the most genuine and nurturing components of nature and I witness these spectacles every day when I water the plants on our small terrace garden. There are several plants on our terrace whom me and my mother have nurtured and cherished for a long time. Both of us get excited when a new flower blossoms on a seasonal plant and stressed when we see any pest infestation on them. We have tried to take care of these plants with our heart and soul as a gesture of gratitude towards nature. This ritual of watering our plants every evening is my daily encounter with nature and her spectacles.

What does being in a natural environment feel like?

Answer : Whether I am standing alone in the middle of nowhere, embraced by an eerie silence and cold breeze in a forest or sitting under a banyan tree on a spring afternoon, I feel a warm embrace of nature whenever I am in the middle of a natural environment. I tend to watch the different elements of the natural environment, feel the invisible elements of nature and try to listen into the silence, whenever I get the opportunity to be in a natural environment.
